Long version: For a little background on myself, I've had a passionate interest in tabletop gaming since I was a teenager, having tried a variety of systems, attending gaming conventions, and both playing with and watching games with DMs with a lot of different styles. I even ran games myself in multiple editions of Call of Cthulhu for a number of years, and I have a good idea of what I like and don't like at a table.

However, I had avoided playing D&D for years because for some reason I had an idea that it would be a bunch of boring combat mechanics and fighting with goblins all day, and very little of the roleplaying and exploring stuff that I really love. However, having watched a 5e live play and deciding that maybe it wasn't as combat heavy as I thought, I went to roll20 and looked for a game that I could join and try out.

That's how I ended up joining Lucas's (virtual) table with a newly formed group playing the Lost Mines of Phandelver campaign. It's been sooooooo fun! Lucas always comes to the table prepared, but what I really love about him is how committed he is to building a story *with* his players, no matter how ridiculous we are. I've seen DMs who try to railroad their players into following the exact story had prepared ahead of time, but Lucas is good at rolling with the punches, giving his players room to really lean into their characters, and giving them opportunities for them to do things which he probably didn't quite expect walking into the session--or sometimes working with them to play out scenes that let them flesh out their backstories. For example, in our last session, one of our players essentially re-spec'ed their character in a fun and rather dramatic scene where said character's mom came and dragged them home by the ear, scolding them for missing school, while their brother stayed behind to help the party in their place. It was super entertaining and exactly the kind of thing I enjoy about playing with Lucas and this group.

I'd say Lucas is also a great DM for working with beginners. He has a good knowledge of the system, did a good session zero with all of us to establish shared boundaries, and is very patient, even now when I have to look exactly what my spells do for the gajillionth time in a row. #^^# He's great with providing resources for players (e.g. recommending Chrome integrations, token creators, wildshape table, sharing sourcebooks on Dndbeyond). He's also good at tracking his players and making sure everyone gets an opportunity to roleplay at the table. I like the way he roleplays NPCs, and I feel like he is good at having them react appropriately to situations and playing a variety of characters. He actively seeks feedback, tries out new tools, has a drive to consistently improve his games and his DM'ing skills.

And last but not least, he's just a fun person to interact with. I appreciate his flexibility, sense of humor, and ability to handle a group gracefully, helping everyone to have fun while still providing enough challenge and consequences to keep the game engaging. Highly recommend!
